First the food is overpriced and just sort of slopped on a plate. There was nothing artistic about the presentation and I ordered a pasta dish that came out looking like a bowl of vomit. I would expect that when paying these prices you could expect it to look a lot better than what it did. My guest ordered a steak which tasted like fish which made it unedible. Second, the soups (I had the potato and my friend the mushroom) and I instantly knew they were nothing more than doctored up canned soup. I have been able to make them both by just adding a few ingredients and will be happy to pass along the recipies to anyone who'd like them. Both were served, I might add, with a nice layer of skin on top which let me know they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. Third, the desserts we had (chocolate expresso pot du creme and turtle cheescake) were both old. The pot du creme was rather thick and lumpy and was at least a week old. The cheescake was dried out and was not "house made" as they like to claim. (You can buy the same cheesecake in the freezer section of the supermarket made by Sara Lee...same cake and a lot cheaper than $5 a slice.) Finally, I saw three cockroaches in the spam of about ten minutes. One on the booth where I was sitting, one on the edge of an empty table nearby, and one that the chef pointed out to our server crawling up the wall. I will say that our waiter was exceptional. Too bad that he has to work in a place like this. I will not be back and would suggest that no one else frequent this place as well. ___________________________________________________________________ ON 11/2/2009, I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING EMAIL FROM ANOTHER DISSATISIFIED PEPPERMILL CUSTOMER: "I had a similar experience about 2 years ago!!! My then seven year old pointed out two roaches crawling in the lamp shade above our table. I asked to speak with a manager and my daughter was yelling, "Look, roaches" loudly. The manager was trying to get us out as quickly as possible and didn't charge for the meal. He was trying his best to hurry us out because a table of about 8 people had been seated near us. The waitress was great but when shown the roaches she said, "Oh no, not again!" I have placed XXXXX where that person's name should appear.) Brandi, If in fact you are not XXXXX (and I'm still skeptical on that anyway. He was an employee who was fired just before these internet posts started.) then my apologies on the direction of my email. Surely you would understand that the email was aimed at him, a disgruntled employee seeking revenge. Now I will focus on it being to you, a customer who was dissatisfied. We have things called comment cards. Use them. Tell us why you're displeased and we will take notice of that and see what we can correct. Yes, there is free speech, but there's also free will. Let others decide if they want to eat at The Peppermill or not. We have MANY happy customers, and I myself love the food at Peppermill. Sorry that you seem to have had an unpleasant experience. And if you didn't like the food, consider that maybe it was a particular item you ordered that just wasn't your taste. And if you didn't like the presentation of the food, again, we have comment cards for that. I personally think the food is colorful in most dishes and that the display is appetizing. If you think it looks like vomit, maybe you're just not used to seeing fresh veggies and homemade sauces. I regret that you confess to seeing cockroaches. Personally, in my year and a half working there, I have not seen any. How unfortunate/convenient that they seemed to only show up when you chose to dine there. Also you said that if I and my fellow employees were doing our jobs, then we would have plenty of business. And as you even mentioned, your server was exceptional. So apparently some of us are doing our jobs. And we thank you for mentioning that. However, now that I realize what a complete bitch you seem to be, I think it's safe to say that we really don't want your business anyway. However, we would appreciate that you not try to ruin our business just because of your ONE-TIME unsatisfactory experience. Also, if you do choose to use my emails in your future posts, it would be best that you display the entire email (I so hate being misquoted) and set the record straight that you didn't like your meal, so you decided to make it your mission to ensure that no one ever eats at The Peppermill (dramatic much?). Furthermore, please let me know where you work so I can have a chance to come and find something to complain about to you and everyone else who will listen. I would so appreciate that. Seating is on two levels, we've always found the upstairs a little less hectic. The menu is fairly standard roadhouse fare, with chops, pasta, and sandwiches. Usually a food and drink special or two, as well. On our recent visit, my salmon was disappointing--a dried-out over-seasoned square. Salad and veggies were great, as were the sandwiches ordered by others in our party. Manager comped us dessert. Two nights later, the pasta special was to die for. The sauce would've been at home in any great Italian restaurant. A well-run place with dependable service. less

Servers are fast and attentive. Free warm chips and homemade salsa. All the usual selections. My impression is that the food is less greasy, fresher, and more flavorful than the typical Mex (of which our city has many). Cheap beer and drinks, too! Seems like the type of place where the owner is always on hand and on top of things. less
