My husband & i dined there last evening & everything we tried was yuck yuck, mainly bc it was OLD.. not even the tea was good. We were very disappointed & they are not that cheap.. we only took a few bites & were outta there.. not impressed! I would save your money, or go to another chinese place, this one just doesn't cut it anymore. less

They have a drive thru and if you have 30 minutes to kill waiting in line with only 2-3 cars ahead of you, this might be an option for you. If you try to call your order in before you get there or while you are sitting in line, they take their phone off the hook or just let it ring. Trevor R.   -   Family Life Cycle Stages- The restaurant caters mostly to older middle to upper class families with or without children. Formally, the restaurant was considered a formal dining experience, and was a place where a family could go out on a date without the children and have a night out in the sophisticated atmosphere and have a class of wine together.However, recent economic issues have broadened the target market to a more family oriented dining experience. Menu- The restaurant has kept the formal dining dishes including Tuscan Chicken, seafood risotto with shrimp/crab, parmesan tilapia, fine cut steak filets, to flaming deserts, to a whole list of wines or their own specialty brewed beer. The menu also a soup/salad, lunch, dinner, deserts, and now offering a kids menu. Price- Appetizers range from $5-9, soups $4 cup $5 bowl, lunch $8-10 an entree, and dinner $18-27. Atmosphere- Cypress Street is located in an old drugstore built in 1919, and was renovated in 1993 to become “Abilene’s Landmark Restaurant.” So it is an obviously an old building yet it has been restored to be classy and clean, but still carrying the rustic vibes. The lighting is fairly dim as in most dining locations, with subtle jazz music or a live musician playing on the more busy days, primarily being the weekends. For the most part, it is a quiet yet sociable environment that encourages conversation. Service- Waiter readily greeted me at door and when I asked if I could ask some questions, he quickly went and brought a manager who willfully answered any questions I asked. Whenever there are patrons dining, the owner walks from table to table greeting and thanking those who choose his restaurant. Food Quality- Cypress street sets the bar for there business by calling it a “landmark restaurant” and lives up to the standard by creating specialty dishes that you normally wouldn’t find in a cowtown like Abilene. The business has received 14 awards including recognition from New York Times, Southern Living, CNN and ABC nightly news, owning up to the level of quality they claim. Location- The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Abilene, in the section of old buildings bringing to life the classic nostalgic feelings associated with industry and old money. Target markets and marketing strategy- As previously discussed the restaurant primarily focused its scope on attracting the middle to upper class families who are looking for a night to break free from the daily life in Abilene. Before, prices would limit the whole family coming, to mainly just a night of husband and wife, or an special occasion among friends or middle aged citizens. However, because of the whole economy situation, they were forced to lower prices and incorporate a kids menu to broaden the market to include nesters and parents who come to see there college kids and want to take them somewhere nice. Also in the recent year, Cypress opened the first Abilene brewery and opened a separate bar section to those who want to come and lighten up in the same restaurant they enjoy to eat in. The bar is separate from the rest of the restaurant keeping the quiet, sophisticated dining environment intact. less

Received somewhat small portion of brisket that had been cut into bite size chunks and smoked, a side of beans, a side of rice, two flour tortillas, a dollop of guacamole, and a small portion of lettuce w. shredded cheese on top. The brisket was tough, stringy, and chewy. The portion size was small, but that is good, as I would not have wanted to eat any more of it. It did not come with onions or peppers - normally associated with fajitas. The dollop of guacamole was good. The beans were ok. The tortillas were ok. The rice tasted instant. For over $8, this is a very poor value. If you at "Little Joe's Fajitas", AVOID the Fajitas. less

Michelle C.   -   I worked for this outfit in high school back in the early 80s and have been eating there ever since. For the $$, it's one of the best steak dinners you can have in Lubbock. I have a family of 4, and for around $32 we can all have rancher sirloins cooked to tender perfection, a baked potato, texas toast and the salad bar has a pretty good variety of things to try. Crowded as HECK at dinner and especially on Sat and Sun, but the turn-around is relatively fast and if you're on a budget, worth the wait! less

Shannon S.   -   After raised expectations we experienced nothing but disappointment. As my birthday dinner this year my wife and friends decided to indulge me with a long desired visit to Cagle’s. The evening initiated with our friends arriving to get the table at 6:30 pm and unfortunately, this was the day of midterm graduation. The place was packed. My wife and I arrived at 7:00 pm and expecting an short half hour wait settled in for some good conversation. The waiting room could have been used to store the beef. We froze for over an hour. During this hour, we watched as countless large groups got a table. We asked multiple times how many groups were ahead and were told more than once only two groups were ahead of us. We finally began to become somewhat anxious. One unfortunate lady even begin yelling at the hostess after waiting around two hours. We were finally seated around 8:15 pm. The waiter was prompt in getting our order in at around 8:30 pm but later advised us he entered our order and asked if we wanted to speak with the manager. We declined as this was unsolicited and we figured we had waited this long so the steaks should be out shortly. Well, we never saw those steaks. Sometime shortly after 9:10 pm we began asking our waiter about our meal. He advised it was coming. At this point, we had had enough. Our wait was pushing three hours and we still had no steak. The manager arrived just in time to see us place napkins on the table while telling the waiter we had simply waited too long. In a somewhat less than polite demeanor the manager advised the steaks were less than two minutes away. Having been told several times we were two groups from being seated and seeing several people who ordered after us eat and leave, we were done. The manager did agree we would not have to pay as we had never seen our steak. We left. I was horribly disappointed and would have a difficult time justifying another trip to Cagle’s. less
