The Best Mexican restaurant hands down in Reading is...

ALEBREJE on 5th Street Highway! I have tried the other top 3 mexican themed restaurants in Reading, and Alebreje located on 5th Street Highway is by far the best. Don't let the location fool you. Yes it is where Wendy's and Subway is also located, but ignore those. For the best Horchata in town, which is rice water, yes rice water, it is surprisingly refreshing and sweet. If you aren't into sweet, try one of their margaritas. Some of my favorite dishes are the empanadas. It is an appetizer, but they give you 2 whole ones cut in halves with just enough salsa, salsa verde, and guacamole. Don't forget the sour cream. The Caldo Tlalpeno soup is for those who have a stomach for spice. This is basically a chicken soup, times it by 10 for liveliness! It contains chipoltle chilis, avocado, cheese, and of course chicken. Even though this is so far a soup and appetizer, try to slow it down from the free warm tortilla chips and salsa they also provide to enjoy an actual meal. The enchiladas are good, the chicken chimichanga is the greatest! It tastes like fried chicken, except wrapped in a fried flour tortilla topped with melted cheese and of course refried beans, rice, and a mix of tomatoes, lettuce, avocado, and sour cream. By this time, your belly should feel like it needs to explode, even though you want more because it just all tastes so good. If you want to skip soup and appetizer and stay away from fried food, then order the Carne Asada. This is the best thinly sliced beef steak, although they give you so much you can't even tell it's thinly sliced. Served with warm tortillas, this will surely hit the spot. Don't forget dessert. Of course you can't go wrong with fried ice cream. If you can't decide, they have mix and match items as well. Anything from tacos, tostados, burritos, fajitas, etc. You name it, they got it. I just learned they finally put Sopes on the menu so I am heading there tomorrow to try those next! If you are wondering why this place beats all the other mexican joints in town, it's because their food tastes like it was made with love, and it all tastes fresh, not like a chain where everything is pretty much a line of plopping ingredients that a chain recipe calls for. Trust me, you will not be disappointed here!
